Final meeting: Tuesday 18th July 1911
The Irish racecourse at the County Cork seaside town of Youghal was well supported by local inhabitants and visitors to the town. The inaugural meeting took place on Tuesday 16th October 1838 on a flat course, situated between the town and the causeway bridge, built on land reclaimed from the Blackwater estuary, with a stand-house erected at the south west corner of the course. After a period without racing the meetings were revived again on 6th June 1865 with the railway providing thousands with the opportunity to see future racing stars like Sam Chiffney and Alice Hawthorn. Racing continued to be popular until the final meeting which took place on Tuesday 18th July 1911. |
